Charles Barkley added to the blood coursing through the streets of Auburn Nation since the hiring of Gene Chizik by asserting that Buffalo Coach Turner Gill was a token candidate who was never given... serious consideration. The reason? Because Gill is a black man married to a white woman. Is this Charles being his typical irreverent self or is there more to this story? One thing is certain. the beginning is so amazing
Football is filled with guys who were good coordinators but lousy head coaches...Cam Cameron, Gregg Williams, Rod Marinelli, even going back to Bill Arnsparger. 5-19 is a pretty strong case against.
Apparently Chizik is a good coach? He was the defensive coordinator on Auburn and Texas teams that ran off 29 straight wins? Turner Gill saying he was a token candidate is huge. Arguing that Auburn didn't choose the right coach, though, isn't automatic.
No arguing with Charles on this one.
